As a New Jersey wedding photographer, it’s always an honor to capture weddings of every size—from large celebrations to intimate elopements. Meralys and Chris’ day may have been smaller than originally planned, but it was filled with heart, resilience, and the support of their closest family.
When Meralys and Chris first got engaged, they were excited to begin planning a traditional wedding celebration with family and friends. But only a few months into their engagement, their lives changed unexpectedly when they experienced a devastating house fire that caused them to lose so much.
After going through such a difficult time, the couple made the thoughtful decision to shift their wedding plans and focus on what mattered most. Instead of planning a large event, they chose to have a small and meaningful New Jersey park elopement surrounded by their closest loved ones.
Even with the change in plans, their wedding day still meant the world to them and their families.
One of the most touching parts of the day was the effort family members made to be there for Meralys and Chris. Some of Meralys’ relatives traveled all the way from Mexico to witness their wedding day.
Having family come such a long distance made the intimate ceremony feel even more special. It was clear how important this moment was to everyone involved.
Just when it seemed like things couldn’t get any more unpredictable, the weather had one more surprise. The day Meralys and Chris had planned for their elopement also happened to be the same day a hurricane was forecasted to hit the area.
With the storm approaching, we quickly realized we would need to adjust the plan in order to make the ceremony happen outdoors at the park. Everyone jumped into action—coordinating with family members, adjusting the timeline, and moving the ceremony time earlier in the day in hopes of beating the rain.
It was definitely a stressful moment, but everyone worked together to make it happen.
Thankfully, the quick planning paid off. By moving the ceremony earlier, we were able to arrive at the local park in Runnemede, New Jersey before the rain began.
The sky was cloudy, but considering the forecast ahead of us, we were more than happy to take the clouds. Even better, the immediate family members were able to adjust their schedules and arrive in time to witness Meralys and Chris exchange their vows.
It turned into the most beautiful and heartfelt moment in the park.
After the ceremony, we spent some time walking through the park capturing portraits of the newly married couple. Despite everything they had gone through leading up to this day—from the house fire to the hurricane forecast—the joy between them was undeniable.
The cloudy skies created soft, beautiful light for their photos, and the park gave us a peaceful and natural backdrop for their New Jersey elopement photography.
Best of all, we were able to capture these memories without a single drop of rain.
